Before UCAD, I was a network administrator at SENELEC the utilities company, and I managed SENELEC WAN with 35 sites distributed in the whole country And since 2007, I am administering the campus network of UCAD. Have you set up and/or administered any of the following? Please give details Bind or any other Nameservers* ------------------------------ Our university is managing the SN ccTLD, and so we host the DNS servers. I manage ccTLD DNS servers and the campus DNS server, all those servers have BIND 9 installed Mail Transport Agents (ex. My duties and responsibilities are to maintain the campus network and give Internet access to faculty members and students and access to applications and shared resources in the university. In a national level, I'm member of the task force for the Senegal NREN and my responsability is to give the network diagram for the NREN. For IPV6 area, I’m coordinating the IPV6 test bed in Senegal with our local ISP SONATEL. And at last I'm a member of ISOC chapter in Senegal A brief description of your computing and networking environment (operating systems, networking software, modems, etc.), including the connectivity of your organization to the Internet and your country's connectivity to the international Internet* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We have a campus network that interconnects all educational and administrative departments in our university. This network is composed of 50 catalyst switches, 5 routers, 10 linux infrastructure servers (DNS, Web, Proxy, Firewall, VPN, Mail, etc) and 5 Windows applications servers). Optical fiber is our main transmission cable in the wired network, but we also manage a Wi-Fi network which is dedicated for students. We used debian and fedora Linux distributions and Windows 2000/2003 servers. For networking we have 4 L2/L3 catalyst 3750G-12S and 1 Cisco router 7606 in our backbone. In the access network, we used catalyst 2960, 2950, 3560. For our Internet Connection, we have 5 Mpbs for upstream and 34 Mbps for downstream and used a Cisco 3640 router. Our International Internet link is 5.4 Gpbs. Scope of your institution (check all categories that apply)* ------------------------------------------------------------ Academic Network Provider : Approximate number of full time staff at your institution* ---------------------------------------------------------- 2500 How your training and current work prepare and qualify you for the track you wish to attend* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm familiar with IGP routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and some basic topics in BGP and IS-IS. I hope we will have our NREN this year and need to know more about EGP such as BGP (iBGP, eBGP). How you expect to use the knowledge you gain at the workshop after you return to your country* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After I return in my county, I first share my knowledge with my colleague in our university and also in other universities in the country via the NREN. As an instructor, I can organize some workshops for my students or for ISOC members If you have previously attended AfNOG or INET Workshops for Developing Countries Year and track you attended --------------------------- 2010 SI-E AfNOG in Kigali A precise description of how you have used the training you have received in the past ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good!! After the workshop SI-E, First I implement IS-IS routing protocol in my campus network, was static routing Second, I set up an IPV6 tested bed because after the SI-E workshop I know more about IPV6 protocol (subnetting, operation, etc) The significant advances in networking which have occurred in your country specifically because of your knowledge and effort --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By my commitment in the NREN process: 1)Workshop is planned next month with NSRC 2)We are installing an LL of 155 Mbps 3) I have made surveys in other universities IPV6 testbed between our university and the ISP, I'm the lead of this testbed, and since 2 weeks our 6to4 tunnel is working FINANCIAL INFORMATION ====================== Are you are requesting financial aid from the AfNOG Workshop for attending the workshop and meetings, or for travel costs?* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Requested aid to cover the attendance fees. Explain why you are asking for financial assistance. How will your organisation and your country benefit from your training? What other sources of funding have you approached, and what were the results? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Because at our university our training budget is to limited. As I mentioned earlier, I will share my knowledge with my colleagues in the NREN and with our students. I can myself fund my airfare ticket. How will the finances be paid? Your Institution ----------------- University Cheikh Anta DIOP of Dakar max 1000 $US Your Government --------------- None Your personal contribution -------------------------- my airface ticket which costs 1400 $ US Amount you ask from AfNOG (less than $1,000)* --------------------------------------------- 900 $ US REFEREES ======== First Referee* -------------- Randy BUSH, IIJ randy@psg.com Second Referee* --------------- Alex CORENTHIN ISOC SENEGAL alex.corenthin@isoc.sn END OF APPLICATION
